Blog Takeover … ‘Modern Marvels Bad Girl’ Tutorial by Make-up Artist Dehsarae Mahrae

I was on the hunt again on Instagram to find some NEW make-up talent and I came across Dehsarae work! What caught my eye is the fact that she turns herself into different characters with make-up and body paints. In fact designs that I have not seen other make-up artists do. I love how she takes inspiration from a picture and turns into a living canvas on herself.

Dehsarae Mahrae is a freelance & self-taught make-up artist, currently based in San Diego. Check out some of Dehsarae’s work:

For our blog takeover I asked Dehsarae to create an exclusive look for the Crownbrush blog this week to inspire you all and encourage you to experiment with paints and make-up! I love how she has turned herself into a Modern Marvel bad Girl character all inspired by the following picture...

Modern Marvel Bad Girl Tutorial:

Body paint:
1: Start with your outline using, a white eyeliner, I used NYX jumbo pencil in milk.
2: Using red & yellow face & body paint fill in the areas with the corresponding color. (Kryolan aquacolors)
3: Fill in the rest of the chest area with white face paint. (Kryolan aquacolors)
4: Lightly outline the yellow band with black face paint, you are going to re outline a bit darker in the few steps. (Kryolan aqua colors)
5: Using the same black paint complete the x detail in the red circle.
6: Use a black eyeshadow to darken the outline on the yellow band, (muadcosmetics loose pigment in flat black)
7: Finish by setting the white paint with either translucent powder or baby powder.

Face & Eyes:
1: Start with a clean face apply your favorite primer, here I also covered the ends of my eyebrows with Elmer's glue stick.
2: To darken my complexion I used IMAN cover clay medium in sand all over my face, to set the clay I used benefits hoola bronzer and a big fluffy brush.
3: Using a black face paint, I reshape my eyebrows for a straighter end and filled them in completely. (Kryolan aqua colors)
4: With the same black paint I created a cut crease following the same shape of my brow then lightly blended towards the eyebrow with black eyeshadow. (Kryolan aqua colors & muadcosmetics loose pigment in flat black)
5: Apply a white base all over the lid & set it a matte white eyeshadow. (Nyx Jumbo pencil in milk & Muadcosmetics loose pigment in angel baby)

6: Using any eyeliner of your choice, create a winged eyeliner, connecting to your lower lash line. (Nyx studio eyeliner in black) .
7: Smoke out the lower lash line with black eyeshadow. Also applied white dots & thunder bolts around eye area. (Muadcosmetics loose pigment in flat black & limecrime lunar sea eyeliner)
8: Apply dramatic lashes, black eyeliner in your waterline & red lipstick. ( Halloween lashes from party city, urban decay eyeliner in perversion & milani lipstick in high voltage)
9: Apply your Wig & your done!

1 EYELINER and 3 LOOKS with 3 Crownbrushes!

Talk about a multitasking makeup look- One eyeliner can provide up to five or more very different looks for your eyes.
Lining your eyes places emphasis on one of your most beautiful features and can provide a touch of needed polish on a day when you are truly short on time. Eyeliner also serves as important part of an evening makeup look, and you can spice things up by layering on sultry shades to achieve the smoky eye that you see on the red carpet and in magazines.

By providing infinite eye looks, eyeliner is a must have for your makeup kit!

GET IN LINE

Eyeliner comes in several forms, including liquid with a brush or in a felt tip pen type applicator. Eyeliner pencils, sometimes known as kohl eyeliners, are just that. Pencils that can be self-sharpening or have a sponge tip for smudging on the opposite end of the pencil. Some powder eye shadows can function as liner when used with a wet eyeliner brush.

Personally, I find using make-up brushes easy to use , and they are also generally the best for contact lens wearers, as liquid liner can sometime flake and fall into your eyes and you have fully control how much product you apply on your brush to create your desired eyeliner design.

Here are three Crownbrushes I love to use when creating three of the most popular eyeliner looks:

Flat Line Definer
C432

Designed with flawless liner application. The firm synthetic bristles are cut and placed in a perfect straight line. Capable of applying an ultra thin, or slightly smudged smoky line along the lash line. This brush works well with both cream and powder liners or for smudging pencils into the lash line.

Taklon Angle Liner

A multi-use brush! It’s designed for looks that are focused around the lashes, because the angle part helps you draw a precise line. So it’s not only perfect for applying gel eyeliner but also for the darkest shade of your smoky eye. I also love it for delivering a concentrated hit of bright colour.

Bent Liner

An angled eyeliner brush has been designed  for use with cream or gel eyeliners due to it's Synthetic Bristles with a tapered, super-fine tip that fits perfectly along the lash line, making it easy to draw a clean, crisp line with extreme precision.

C406 Large Duo Fibre Face Brush Review

The C406 Duo Fibre brush from Crownbrush is one of the best sellers. I am not surprised as I would be lost without this brush in my make-up brush kit now. This is why I am doing a blog post dedicated purely on this amazing brush after all I call it my ‘Magic Wand’ because there are just so many ways to use it!

This brush has been designed to create a buildable colour and add texture for a lightweight application and blending of face powder or pigments creating flawless, airbrushed make-up looks with cream, liquid or powder products.  All Duo Fibre brushes are made from a soft blend of goat and synthetic fibres.

How to use it?

My primary use for this brush is in the application of liquid foundation. Apply liquid foundation onto the back of your hand and then use the brush to stipple the liquid on a little at a time until the desired coverage is achieved. The result is a flawless 'airbrushed' effect - natural; no streaks; perfectly blended. Using this method, I find that I use less foundation and get a perfect finish. I have two of these brushes in my kit- one for liquid foundation and the other for loose powder or mineral powders giving more of a natural and less mask-like look when setting foundation, as the synthetic bristles picks up less powder than a denser brush does.

Make-up I created for 'Magnetize'
C-Heads magazine using my Duo Fibre Brushes

The C406 Large Duo Fibre Face Brush is only £9.29 available on www.crownbrush.co.uk

Crownbrush Shimmer Palette 88 SWATCHED & Giveaway

I am huge fan of the Crownbrush Eyeshadow palettes. I can travel with them easily with having access to every colour I need. This is the Shimmer version of the Professional 88(01) palette I have loved since starting make-up artistry since I discovered Crownbrush and I pretty much take it on each make-up job with me. The possibilities with this palette are endless- I use it for lips, eyes, blusher and even body painting!

The Shimmer 88 Palette Containing 88 beautiful shimmering colours from warm to cool. Made with pure Mica pigments. This palette includes deep vibrant turquoises, plums, bronzes, and golds, matte eyebrow colours, liners, and shimmer highlighters.

The shadows can be applied with ease using the dual end foam applicators included or using some of your favourite Crownbrush eye shadow brushes depending on what techniques and looks you are achieving.

The shadows are a pressed powder shimmer pigmentation, meaning their will be natural fall when using any shimmer eyeshadows so I do recommend using a primer or base only to prolong the wear of these shadows and to make the shadows pop even more or you can apply the eye shadows wet for a deeper, longer lasting effect.

The matte black case contains a mirror and two sponge applicators. The palette is perfect for traveling make-up artists as well as for personal use. The Shimmer 88 eye shadow palette is only £27.49 available on www.crownbrush.co.uk The palette also comes in Matte too!
